Eight childhood friends, three University of Michigan grads and one bachelor party campfire were the catalysts that brought together the founding partners of this Detroit-based distillery. Co-owner Jerome credits their strong bond with each other and their love for science as a key factor in the success of this business that is now distributing products in 31 states and nine European countries.

Jerome, a microbiology and anthropology grad, works as a quality control lab technician for Bell’s Brewery and has a deep love of the science behind brewing and distilling. He credits this deep understanding of the process and the ability to translate that into products that are truly remarkable as a major contributor to the company’s success.
When the pandemic hit and healthcare and essential businesses were experiencing critical deficits of personal protective equipment (PPE) in order to keep their frontline workers safe, Detroit City Distillery adapted their manufacturing facility in just 72 hours to produce and distribute large quantities of hand sanitizer to the community. With the help of Pure Michigan Business Connect’s COVID-19 Procurement Platform, they were able to get product into the hands of our region’s first responders and frontline employees much faster than it could have been done otherwise.
